Wildacres
Retreat 2009NEW details!Retirees Association Retreat at Wildacres October 12 - 15, 2009 For the 14th year in a row a group of United Way retirees, spouses, and friends journeyed to the top of Pompey’s Knob, some 3300 feet up in the Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina, to the Wildacres Retreat Center. While Oct.12 was full of rain and fog, the 28 of us from 9 states who answered the call looked forward to a time of fellowship, learning, and play. We were not disappointed. While the weatherman only gave us one sunny day out of four (after many years of good weather), a good time was had by all. Our minds were stretched by Dr.Farley Snell, recently retired to Asheville after 27 years as chaplain and chair of the Department of Religion and Philosophy at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. He presented and discussed with us “The Worlds Religions” with emphasis on Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, and Islam. A timely and needed subject in our ever changing world. For one of the evenings, one of our participants, Eileen Scott, taught us line dancing and even the onlookers had fun watching the rest of us dance with two left feet. On the last night Mike House, Wildacres manager, entertained with piano and song. A great lounge act! The specific date for 2010 will be known after the first of the year but you can mark your calendars now for October. The weather will be better, the program informative, and the company outstanding. Don’t miss it! |
