UWRA Southeast Region Retreat - By Beth Ferri Knowles, 2006-2007 Wildacres coordinator,
The Southeast Region hosted our annual event at Wildacres Retreat Center October 15-18, 2007. The Center is off the Blue Ridge Parkway near Little Switzerland, NC. A photo album of this year’s event is posted on the UWRA website: www.uwra.org. The speaker on Tuesday, John Sharpe, retired superintendent of Mt. Mitchell State Park talked on the mountain ranges in the area and the history of Mt Mitchell in particular. On Wednesday, Brian Westveer, told the real stories behind local history. Thirty-two retirees with spouses and guests, representing most regions and as far away as California attended the event. The weather was fine and most of us explored local areas of interest in the afternoons. Evening entertainment with a sing-a-long on Tuesday and piano Wednesday night was great fun. Our next event will again be at Wildacres Retreat Center in October 2008. As always, it is open to all members of the Retirees Association and we encourage you to attend. We will announce the specific dates for next year as soon as possible so you can mark your calendar.  - Click on the image below to see a larger still picture -
