United
Way Retirees Association Launches 2007 Mentoring Program
The Mentoring
Program is a
one-year formal relationship where a local United Way CEO or other
staff member
is partnered with a United Way
Retirees Association (UWRA) member. For
the mentoring year, UWRA covers all expenses up to the maximum stated
($2,000)
including two on-site mentor visits. The
objective of the UWRA mentoring program is to match trained volunteers,
who
have extensive United Way
backgrounds, with new United
Way
staff members. UWRA membership includes
approximately 550 people nationwide who are 50 and older – some are
still
working in United Way
system, others have retired from a United Way position or have
significant United Way
career experience. Our goal is to use that
experience and
expertise to help the United
Way
system and each other.
Through the Mentoring program, UWRA volunteers
provide
initial on-site and follow-up assistance (phone/email contact)
including a
second visit offering guidance, support, tips, etc. learned from their United Way
careers. The UWRA mentoring program is a
wonderful opportunity for newly installed United Way staff to avail
themselves of
an experienced resource for success which hopefully contributes to
their
professional and personal growth. UWRA
Service Corps volunteers armed with extensive United Way knowledge, experience
and
expertise are freely giving their time because they believe in United Way
and want
to assist as an extension of their career in advancing the United Way
mission. We are pleased to announce the
